Getting Started with Process Tempo


Implementing Process Tempo is fairly easy, there are just three main steps involved:

  • The Storyboard Session

  • Data Modeling and Ingestion

  • Data Analysis


This blog describes these steps and how our clients enjoy fast implementations with minimal impact on their current business.



The Story Board Session


First, it is important to understand that our approach is designed to work WITH and not AGAINST existing reporting and analytics capabilities. Replacing technologies can be a risky endeavor and we are all about risk reduction!


The Story Board session helps to paint a "To-Be" architecture with Process Tempo working alongside existing assets. We work very well alongside technologies such as: Alteryx, Pentaho, Informatica, Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik, etc. During the Story Board Session we simply map out the existing processes and how they work (or not).


To accomplish this mapping, we utilize the Process Tempo Visual Modeler which is an online concept modeling environment built-in into our platform. Using our Visual Modeler, we describe how the people, processes, and technology will need to interact to accomplish our goals. We also use this modeler to define the assets we have to work with.


Our Visual Modeler is accessible using most modern web-browsers:




What sets our modeling environment apart from similar tools (such as Microsoft Visio) is that we store this content in a database which means this content is reusable. Visio only creates pretty pictures while we capture reusable information.


The Story Board Session is typically only a half-day exercise and we like to involve as many subject matter experts as possible. Our findings are made available via our secure, hosted environment.


Data Modeling and Ingestion


The Story Board Session will make clear the data assets we will need. The Data Modeling and Ingestion exercise takes this one step further. During this process we define the sources of data in order to maintain data lineage. We then categorize the data in order to come up with a human-readable data catalog. Our goal is to load this data into Process Tempo so that it will be readily understood by non-technologists. This requires mapping cryptic data terms into those easily understood by our target audience.


Fortunately, Process Tempo makes the data modeling and ingestion process very easy. Using our Import Modeler we combines these features into a single, easy to use interface. It provides us the ability to perform data importing, data cataloging and data lineage mapping all in one step.

Once we have the data loaded into Process Tempo, we can now have some fun analyzing this information.


Data Analysis


The built-in analysis features is what sets Process Tempo apart from other analysis solutions. We offer six different categories of analysis capabilities that are very unique. These include:

  • Ad-hoc Search and Discovery

  • Self-service Reporting

  • Built-in Complexity Scoring

  • Built-in Advanced Analysis Features

  • Custom Recommendation Engines
